In the U.S. you’re probably not in the top 1% of homeowners. And in the UK, you probably aren’t in the top 1%.

In the UK, renters get a median value of 200,000 as opposed to the U.S. with a median of less than 100,000. In the UK, homeowners are valued more than renters for a number of reasons. One, they have more money. Also, they have a greater ability to invest.
While renters are likely to have higher incomes, their abilities to invest are likely to be smaller than homeowners of the same age and income because they are more likely to be single. So although they might be better off with a bigger home, they may not have been able to invest in it in the same way a homeowner or investor.
Another reason is that they also have higher expenses and smaller incomes, so their ability to invest is higher than the others.
