However, in order to protect groundwater, we have to protect it for farming, mining, and drilling. We have to make sure that our groundwater doesn’t run out before we actually do anything with it. Unfortunately, this is an extremely expensive process. The EPA estimates that protecting groundwater and other water resources costs about $50 billion per year.
So, there you go. We might not like all of the government regulations we have to put in place, but we also might not like the costs associated with protecting them. Luckily, our groundwater protection department in particular has a pretty good track record since it was created in the 1970s.
The department was created to protect our groundwater from contaminated waste materials, pesticides, and toxic chemicals.
